Highlights of Punjab Kings vs. Chennai Super Kings IPL 2024: Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad saved the day for his team by winning the powerplay against Punjab Kings on Sunday, even though the team lost the traditional coin toss for the tenth time in the Indian Premier League season 2024. In match No. 53 of the IPL 2024 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala, CSK was asked to bat first and lost Ajinkya Rahane for 9 off 7 balls before Gaikwad and Daryl Mitchell shared a 57-run stand in 32 balls.
But, Gaikwad was unable to capitalize on his debut as Rahul Chahar, a spinner, dismissed the CSK captain for 32 off 21 balls in the seventh over. In the game-changing over, Chahar also gave Shivam Dube a king pair. After outwitting Daryl Mitchell in the eighth over, pacer Harshal Patel gave MS Dhoni a golden duck to quiet the boisterous Dharamsala crowd. In his T20 career, Dhoni has never batted at number nine before. CSK was limited to 167-9 in 20 overs by the PBKS bowlers, thanks to three wickets and 24 runs conceded by Harshal.
All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who top-scored for Chennai with the bat (43 off 26 balls), claimed three wickets to pave the way for Chennai’s easy victory over Punjab. In the same over, Jadeja dismissed Curran and Ashutosh. In order to ensure that PBKS only scored 139-9 in 20 overs, the former captain of CSK shared six wickets with Mitchell Santner (1), Tushar Deshpande (2), Simarjeet Singh (1), and Shardul Thakur (1). After defeating PBKS by 28 runs, Chennai moved up to third place in the IPL 2024 points standings.
Chennai Super Kings were anxious to stop their downward trend in the Indian Premier League season 2024 on Sunday as they looked to get revenge on the Punjab Kings. At Chepauk, Punjab Kings outplayed the reigning champs. At the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, three days following their seven-wicket defeat at the hands of PBKS, Punjab attempted to complete a historic double against the five-time champions, but were foiled by the Super Kings.
